Finnish Telecom Company Hit By Cable Outage
Handout undated photo - Finnish cable company Global Connect announced its services were disrupted as a result of two cable breaks on an internet line between Sweden and Finland. “Major outage in Finland caused by separate incidents in our network, no sea cables are affected,” the company first reported Monday evening, adding that technicians were on their way to locate the source of the issues. On Tuesday morning, December 3, 2024, the company announced that the first cable cut had been repaired and technicians were working to fix the second. “Most redundant services should be restored, and will hopefully not be affected further,” the company said. Finnish authorities are currently investigating the incident together with the network company, Transport and Communications Minister Lulu Ranne said on Tuesday. “We take the situation seriously,” she added.
