Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the strategic Z-Morh Tunnel on the Srinagar-Leh highway on January 13, 2025. The tunnel ensures all-weather connectivity to the hill station Sonamarg, which remains cut off during the winter months due to snowfall. The tunnel also boosts tourism in the region. The Z-Morh Tunnel, along with the Zojila Tunnel, which is scheduled for completion by 2026, ensures all-weather connectivity to the Ladakh region, which remains cut off from the rest of the country during winters.
