Refinery Fire In Khartoum - Sudan
This photo taken on January 26, 2025 shows the signs of destruction inflicted on the Khartoum Oil Refinery in Al-Jaili area, north of the Sudanese capital Khartoum. The Khartoum refinery, the country's largest, was built in the 1990s and is located in the Al-Jaili area, approximately 70 km north of Khartoum. It has a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day, supplying a significant portion of Sudan's fuel needs. Its strategic importance has made it a key battleground in the ongoing conflict. Sudan's government and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) traded accusations on Jan. 23 over a fire at the oil refinery. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) said on Jan. 24 it had retaken control of the Khartoum Oil Refinery in the Al-Jaili area, which had been controlled by the paramilitary RSF.
