Land Disputes in Medan - Indonesia

Residents of Polonia, Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia, are seen engaged in various activities while waiting to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan on March 3, 2025. The Polonia area in Medan has a long and complex history of land ownership, which has occasionally led to disputes. Originally, this area was a tobacco plantation established in 1872 and known as "Polonia," granted to Michalsky. Over the years, ownership of the land changed hands, and the area evolved into a residential neighbourhood and an airport. After the former Polonia airport was relocated, the region transitioned into a commercial and residential area.
