Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Ozgur Ozel calls for elections by November during the 21st Extraordinary Congress of CHP, convened under the theme “The Will is the Nation”, held in Ankara, Turkey on April 6, 2025. Ozgur Ozel, called an extraordinary congress, the move comes amid concerns that the party leadership could be removed through legal action after the arrest of the Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu. The Mayor of Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu, a member of opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and the main challenger in the next presidential election, was jailed on corruption charges, sparking the country's largest wave of demonstrations since the 2013 Gezi Park protests.
