A memorial ceremony for those killed when the Ukishima Maru sank as it was taking Korean workers home from Japan following the end of World War II, is held in Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture, on Aug. 24, 2025, the 80th anniversary of the tragedy. The transport ship exploded in Maizuru Bay, leaving over 500 people dead.
