Garcia, a citizen of El Salvador who was legally residing in the United States on 'withholding of removal status', was illegally deported from the U.S. on March 15, 2025, despite never having been convicted of a crime, and is currently being held in the Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT), a maximum-security prison in El Salvador which has numerous human rights violations allegations against it.
