The toxic cloud caused by the fire, on May 10, 2025, in Vilanova i la Geltru, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. A fire in a chemical company in Vilanova i la Geltru has caused a toxic cloud that has forced the confinement of this municipality and four others: Sant Pere de Ribes, Cubelles (Barcelona), Cunit and Calafell (Tarragona). Citizens have received an alert on their cell phones early in the morning and will receive another one when the confinement is over. The emergency services are attending to the injured people and there is a large police presence in the area. The Catalan police have opened an investigation to clarify the facts.
