“I'm very surprised, and I'm sorry if I'm a little emotional,” said Denzel Washington on Monday 19 May, 2025 in the Grand Theatre Lumiere in Cannes. There to present Spike Lee's new film, 'Highest 2 Lowest', which was selected for the Out of Competition category at Cannes 2025, the 70-year-old actor was presented with a surprise Palme d'Or d'Honneur by Festival President Iris Knobloch and General Delegate Thierry Fremaux.
