Japanese baseball legend Nagashima dies at 89

Yomiuri Giants third baseman Shigeo Nagashima waves to fans after being named MVP of the Japan Series against the Nishitetsu Lions at Heiwadai Stadium in Fukuoka, southwestern Japan, on Nov. 4, 1963. Nagashima, who was a key player on the Giants team that won nine consecutive Central League and Japan Series titles from 1965 to 1973 and later managed the club, died on June 3, 2025, aged 89.
