Spain Gripped by Violent Wildfires

A seaplane picks up water to help extinguish the fire on August 18, 2025, in Jarilla, Cáceres, Extremadura (Spain). The fire that originated in Jarilla is currently the only one that is still active in the autonomous community of Extremadura, after having devastated more than 12,000 hectares. This Monday, August 18, 20 aerial resources are fighting it and efforts are concentrated on its northern flank, which continues to advance and threatens Navaconcejo, Tornavacas, Jerte and Rebollar. This locality, of about 200 inhabitants, has been evacuated. Photo by Gustavo Valiente / Europa Press/ABACAPRESS.COM
