Spain Gripped by Violent Wildfires

Several people try to extinguish a fire, on August 19, 2025, in Puerto de San Glorio, León, Castilla y León (Spain). Although the fires are under control, both the Government of Castilla y León and the Government of Cantabria maintain the Potential Severity Index 2 (IGR) and continue preventive and extinguishing efforts. On the León side of Picos de Europa, access is still prohibited and citizens are asked to avoid the area of Valdeón, the closest to the active outbreaks. On the other hand, on the Cantabrian slope, the situation is favorable with weather conditions that favor the extinguishing work.
