A wildfire broke out Sunday, August 15, near A Torre de Meira in Moaña, Galicia, believed to have burned less than one hectare. Authorities deployed three agents, five ground crews, two water trucks, a helicopter and two aircraft, stabilizing the blaze by afternoon before it could spread through nearby woodland.

US: Wildfire Spreads to 131 Acres in San Diego’s Sorrento Valley

A vegetation fire broke out in the Sorrento Valley area of San Diego on Sunday, prompting road closures and evacuation orders for several residential areas. The fire, first reported around 1:30 p.m. near Peñasquitos Creek at an estimated 1 to 2 acres, rapidly grew through medium brush, reaching 131 acres by late afternoon, according to Cal Fire.

South Korea: Torrential Rain Triggers Deadly Landslide, Flooding in Geoje

Heavy rain fell across the Geoje area, South Gyeongsang, from Sunday, August 16, into early Monday, August 17, triggering a landslide in the early hours of Monday that killed at least one person. The torrential rain also prompted about 70 residents to evacuate. Roads flooded repeatedly across downtown areas, and around 20 roads were closed to traffic. Power outages also knocked out electricity to about 1,500 homes and businesses in Ilun-myeon, Gohyeon-dong and Jangseungpo-dong.

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Flores island in eastern Indonesia early on Saturday, August 15. A tsunami warning was issued, urging coastal residents to move to higher ground.
