Riken Invents Nursing Robot

AICHI, JAPAN - FEB. 23: The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, known as Riken, one of Japan's top research institute, announced it invented a new robot to help care the patients by help them by taking them up in the robot's arms. The robot, dubbed Robea, can act like a human with censors to weigh the weight of patients automatically. Chisato Miyaji who experienced the robot, which took her from a sofa to a wheelchair, said she felt her body was moved up very gently just like a human helper. The robot itself is 1.5 meters tall and 140 kilograms heavy but the weight was reduced by 90 kilos from the previous model. Riken made the robot public for the press on Monday February 23 at its facility here in Nagoya, central Japan.

The strait connecting the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean is only 1.3 kilometer wide and seawater flows in and out from the Seto Inland Sea. Japanese probe makes world's 2nd-longest deep-sea cruise

TOKYO, Japan - The Urashima, a Japanese deep-sea probe, is hoisted out of the sea after achieving an unmanned submerged cruise of 220 kilometers, the second longest in the world after the 262 km achieved by a British probe. The photo was released June 22 by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology. The Urashima, measuring 9.7 meters long, 1.3 meters wide and 1.5 meters high, started the cruise at a depth of 800 meters June 8 and covered the 220 kilometers in 43 hours before suspending the cruise due to an approaching typhoon. Although the new car belongs in the minicar category because of its engine capacity, it is treated as a small passenger car because of its size. It is 2.5 meters long and 1.5 meters wide, larger than a typical minivehicle.
