Mitsubishi Electric to recall defective TV sets

TOKYO, Japan - Fumio Okusa, executive director of Mitsubishi Electric Corp., bows in a gesture of apology at the beginning of a news conference Sept. 12, where the company announced it will recall about 100,000 television sets which it said could catch fire from overheating of parts.

Commemorative coins for emperor's reign to be issued

OSAKA, Japan - The Finance Ministry's Mint Bureau announces Nov. 1 it will accept mail orders from Nov. 8 to 21 for 100,000 sets each containing a 10,000 yen gold coin and 500 yen nickel coin (in the photo). The coins commemorate the 10th anniversary of Emperor Akihito's reign. Also to be issued will be 100,000 sets each containing the 10,000 yen gold coin.
