A big umbrella-shaped test model antenna for a future Japanese satellite was unveiled Oct. 22 at a Yokohama office of Toshiba Corp., which is developing the antenna. The model antenna, made up of hexagonal sections, is half the size of an actual antenna. Still, the model is 12.7 meters long and 12.2 meters wide for a surface area of about 100 square meters. The National Space Development Agency of Japan plans to launch the ETS-8 engineering test satellite in 2002.
