KIRUNA, SWEDEN 20250818The move of Kiruna Church is being prepared on Monday 18 August 2025. The wooden church, which is 40 meters wide and weighs 672 000 kilos, is erected on a trailer with wheels. The church will be moved five kilometers to the new center of Kiruna due to the expansion of the iron ore mining. Pilgrims Begin Forty Day Trek to Karbala - Iraq

The first procession in Ras Al-Bishara marks the departure of pilgrims on foot to the holy city of Karbala in southern Iraq on July 18, 2025. The annual pilgrimage, known as Arbaeen if occurring during its traditional period, or in this case a prelude to it, draws millions of Shia Muslims from across Iraq and neighboring countries. Pilgrims walk for hundreds of kilometers to honor the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, who was killed in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE. The journey is not only religious but also deeply symbolic of faith, resilience, and communal solidarity. Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki in Indonesia erupted twice on Monday, July 7, sending massive volcanic smoke up to 18 kilometers (11 miles) into the sky, dumping ash on villages and causing flight cancellations. No casualties were immediately reported.
