Police search historic Shiga school over complaint

OTSU, Japan - Police search the historic Toyosato Elementary School building in the town of Toyosato in Shiga Prefecture on Dec. 25 after receiving a complaint from local residents that the town mayor attempted to demolish the school in violation of a court order. The art deco school, built in 1937, was designed by American architect William Merrell Vories (1880-1964), who was also a prominent missionary and entrepreneur.
