OSAKA, Japan - Sanyo Electric Co. unveiled on Sept. 2 a portable solar panel for use as outdoor lighting or an emergency power source. The device, 24 centimeters by 19 centimeters, is equipped with light emitting diodes on the reverse side for outdoor lighting and a USB power charger for mobile phones. When fully charged under the sun for 15 to 30 hours, the nine LEDs can light up for nine hours. The stored electricity can alternatively be used to charge a mobile phone once, Sanyo says. The retail price is set at around 16,000 yen.

The new AIBO model has 19 LEDs and multiple enhanced touch sensors from head to tail for better emotional expression. It will be priced at 180,000 yen.
