Fishing boat Zuisho Maru freed 7 months after seizure by Russia

KUSHIRO, Japan - The Japanese fishing boat Zuisho Maru No. 38, seized by Russian authorities in January for illegal fishing, berthed at Rausu, Hokkaido after it was released by Russia and towed back to Rausu on Aug. 14. The captain Takashi Kawabata and five other crew members of the 19-ton vessel had been released by the end of May. Russian authorities accused Kawabata of illegal fishing and imposed a 300,000 ruble (1.4 million yen) fine.

SENDAI, Japan - One of the four crew members of the 19-ton tuna boat Kyoei Maru No. 21 is transported to a hospital in the city of Hachinohe, Aomori Pefecture, on May 20 after being rescued at sea off Hachinohe by helicopter. The two crew members of the ship were found drifting in a raft earlier in the day.

NEMURO, Japan - The 19-ton Shinsei Maru No. 3 fishing boat is seen capsized some 40 kilometers off the coast of Nosappu Cape on the northeastern tip of Hokkaido on Sept. 28. KITAKYUSHU, Japan - Five Japanese fishermen who had been missing for five days in the East China Sea off Kagoshima Prefecture, southwestern Japan, are transferred March 26 from a Maritime Safety Agency (MSA) rescue boat to the MSA patrol vessel Osumi (at back). The crew of the 19-ton Ryusho Maru No. 7, from the town of Arie in Nagasaki Prefecture, were rescued in waters some 140 kilometers southwest of Amami-Oshima Island. 5 fishermen from overturned boat rescued

Five of six crew members of a Japanese fishing boat that was found overturned Jan. 21 in the Pacific near Hachijojima Island have been rescued. The crew members of the 19-ton Shinsei Maru were found southeast of the island after floating in life boats for 34 hours. They are all reported in good condition. But the sixth crew member, Taiji Kanehama, 43, has not been found. The photo shows the fishing boat floating about 200 kilometers southeast of Hachijojima Island. ==Kyodo
