NAGANO, Japan - Tokuko Kasuga holds a strip of paper bearing an unpublished piece of work written by Akiko Yosano (1878-1942), a renowned writer of 31-syllable Japanese "tanka" poems, in Nagano, central Japan, on Aug. 27, 2014. Kasuga says she was once told by her adopted mother the poem was written by Yosano when the author was young.

Famous poet Yosano Akiko's handwritten poem found

WAKAYAMA, Japan - Hiroshi Noguchi of Wakayama Prefecture holds a newly discovered handwritten poem by well-known poet Yosano Akiko (1878-1942) and the stone mentioned in the poem in this undated photo taken in Tanabe City. The poem was found with the stone in Noguchi's home. Noguchi's grandfather Ritaro was a rock collector.

FUKUOKA, Japan - Visitors enjoy the traditional hanging decorations of Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture, southwestern Japan, in a room of the house where Japanese poet Hakushu Kitahara (1885-1942) was born, during a festival on Feb. 10, 2014. The festival, featuring colorful decorations at more than 40 locations in Yanagawa, runs through April 3.
