A video from November 20, 2025, in Changde, Hunan, shows a Chinese student climbing into a narrow campus sewer to rescue a dog trapped inside. In freezing weather, the student squeezed into the cramped space while others used flashlights and tools to help guide the dog. After hours of effort, the dog was safely pulled out around 11 p.m., as students cheered and wrapped it in a warm jacket.

Riot police were deployed to Mordialloc Beach in Melbourne’s south-east on Wednesday, December 17, after a large gathering of youths turned unruly, raising public safety concerns and forcing a nearby Woolworths supermarket into lockdown. According to local media, more than 100 youths had gathered in the area when police were first called shortly after 3 p.m. following reports of a brawl at the store.
