FUNABASHI, Japan - Tenth favorite Mejiro Bailey (No. 3), the younger brother of 1998 Tenno-sho winner Mejiro Bright, thundered down the stretch Dec. 10 to win the 52nd running of the Asahi Cup Stakes for 2-year-olds. Mejiro Bailey, ridden by Norihiro Yokoyama, knifed between leaders Tagano Teio (No. 8) and Native Heart (No. 14) at Nakayama Racecourse in Chiba Prefecture to win the 1,600-meter test on turf in a time of 1 minute, 34.5 seconds.
