Honda to begin selling its U.S.-made SUV in Japan

TOKYO, Japan - Honda Motor Co. said April 16 it will begin marketing its U.S.-made Element sport-utility vehicle (SUV) (shown in photo) in Japan from April 18. The four-wheel-drive Element, made by Honda of America Mfg. Inc. and powered with a 2400 cc DOHC engine, will carry a suggested retail price of 2.59 million yen.

GIFU, Japan - Zero Sports Co., an auto component maker, said Dec. 27 it will start selling no-pollution electric vehicles (pictured in file photo) at a record low price of 1.8 million yen thanks to government approval of its application for a subsidy. The Gifu Prefecture-based maker has been marketing the electric vehicle under the brand name ''Zero EV Celo View'' since April at a price of 2.59 million yen. The Zero EV Celo View is a four-wheel mini truck with two passenger seats and a cargo space. It can be recharged at 100-volt sockets in ordinary Japanese houses as it has a 5-meter electric cord.

The Japan Federation of Bar Associations said that the petitions signed by some 1.39 million people, bring the signatures to 2.59 million, as petitions with 1.2 signatures were submitted in August.

Meanwhile, its palm oil exports grew 9.25 percent month on month to 1.42 million tonnes. Palm oil imports, on the other hand, slumped 23.15 percent month on month to 132,303 tonnes.
