China: Student Battles Typhoon Connie’s Powerful Winds On Her Way To Class

On October 31, 2024, as Typhoon Connie reached Jinshan District in Shanghai, a female university student was caught battling the strong winds with her umbrella while heading to class. The video captured her humorous struggle as she tried to maintain her balance while walking against the fierce winds. Despite her best efforts to shield herself with the umbrella, the gusts proved too powerful, flipping it inside out. According to Shanghai Release, from the evening of October 31 to November 1, Shanghai experienced heavy rainfall, with precipitation ranging from 120 to 180 millimeters across the city. In the southeastern part of the city, rainfall could reach between 220 and 280 millimeters, with hourly rainfall expected to range from 40 to 70 millimeters. Typhoon Connie is projected to bring the heaviest November rainfall since 1981. The storm unleashed torrential downpours and strong winds, causing flooding in various areas. The fire department was deployed to manage the situation and help mitigate the typhoon’s impact on residents.
