Brazil: At Least 40 Injured After Air Europa Flight Hits Heavy Turbulence En Route To Uruguay

Air Europa flight UX045 headed for Montevideo, Uruguay from Madrid was diverted to Natal International Airport in Brazil on Monday, July 1, after hitting heavy turbulence leaving at least 40 injured. The flight made an emergency landing at 2:32 a.m. local time, according to airport operator Zurich Airport Brasil. This video shows injured people being carried out of the plane.

The strongest quake jolted the island of Shikinejima with an intensity of 5 on the 7-point Japanese intensity scale, the Meteorological Agency said. An earthquake measuring upper 5 jolted the less than 1,000-populated and 3.7 square-kilometer isle at 2:32 a.m., followed by three other lower 5 intensity earthquakes at 11:19 a.m., 12:10 p.m. and 12:29 p.m.
