(1)Chubu airport opens as Japan's 3rd main int'l gateway

NAGOYA, Japan - The first flight from Chubu Centrair International Airport in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecuture, leaves for Fukuoka on February 17, the opening day of Japan's third main international gateway. The new airport built on a reclaimed island in Ise Bay features a 3,500-meter runway and is open around the clock.

TOKONAME, Japan - Photo shows the 3,500-meter runway at the new Central Japan Airport near Nagoya, central Japan. The Central Japan International Airport Co. (Centrair) held a ceremony March 24 to mark the completion of the tarmac work at the airport prior to its opening in February 2005.
