New humanoid robot to tend bed-ridden patients

TOKYO, Japan - A humanoid robot created by researchers at the University of Tokyo tries to move a 60-kilogram dummy on a bed at an exhibition held at the university on March 28. Yasuo Kuniyoshi, a University of Tokyo professor who is leading the robot project, says the robot, which is 155 centimeters tall and weighs around 70 kg, is capable of lifting a 30-kg weight and researchers hope one day the robot would be able to attend to bed-ridden patients.
