Matsushita to introduce 13 flat TV models prior to Athens Games

TOKYO, Japan - Officials of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. tells reporters in Tokyo May 10 the company will introduce 13 new flat-panel TV models in Japan starting June 1 to cash in on an expected surge in demand due to the Aug. 13-29 Athens Olympic Games. The 13 products from its VIERA TV series include digital high-definition plasma TVs in three screen sizes -- 50, 42 and 37 inches.

OSAKA, Japan - Sharp Corp. President Katsuhiko Machida tells a news conference in Osaka on Jan. 9 that his company plans to introduce a 43-45 inch liquid crystal display (LCD) television set in 2004 in view of the popularity of its Aquos LCD TV set series. The Aquos currently has the biggest LCD screen, at 37 inches. Machida said Sharp is even considering introducing a 50-inch Aquos mainly for U.S. consumers.
