Nikkei falls sharply on 1st trading day of 2014

TOKYO, Japan - An electronic display in Tokyo's Yaesu district shows the closing level of the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average on Jan. 6, 2014, the first trading day of the year in Japan. The index fell 382.43 points, or 2.35 percent, from Dec. 30 to 15,908.88.
