Japan: Tokyo Sees Significant Snow Accumulation Amid Widespread Winter Storm 4

A cold air mass brought widespread snow to much of Japan starting Saturday, February 7, prompting the Japan Meteorological Agency to issue warnings and advisories nationwide as heavy snow continued along the Sea of Japan coast. As of Sunday, over 3 cm of snow accumulation was reported in Tokyo, covering streets throughout the capital.

The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) said on Monday, February 2, that trash collection had fallen behind schedule following the recent snowstorm. While city officials initially hoped to be fully caught up by Wednesday, February 4, trash and recycling pickups were still experiencing slight delays on Thursday, February 5, as crews continued clearing frozen snow and ice while collecting refuse.

RECAP: Iguanas Drop From Trees as Florida Temperatures Plunge

As a cold snap pushed temperatures in south Florida into the mid-30s °F (around 1–2°C), cold-stunned iguanas began falling from trees. Around 600 iguanas were dropped off at Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission facilities over the weekend, while professional trappers collected hundreds more in a single day. Because iguanas are considered an invasive species, those collected are not released back into the wild.

Spain: Storm Leonardo Causes Floods, Evacuations Across Andalusia

Storm Leonardo has triggered a red alert in Andalusia, causing heavy rain, overflowing rivers, road and rail closures, and power outages. Over 3,500 people have been evacuated, and emergency services are monitoring rivers at extreme risk. Residents are urged to stay indoors and move to higher ground. Flooding is also affecting parts of Portugal.
