The first batch of 39 students completed enrollment in September this year. The class aims to cultivate Russian-speaking professional technicians who would be engaged in high-end computer numerical control (CNC) related work in Russia, Belarus and other countries in the future. Kaiwa (Uenohara City, Yamanashi Prefecture) has launched a new stainless steel 5-direction centering vise for machining centers (MCs) that holds workpieces from four directions on both sides of the XY axis. It is suitable for ultra-precision machining of workpieces up to 50 mm in length and 60 mm in width using a 5-axis MC. The mouthpiece is interchangeable to suit the machining purpose. Even rectangular or round-shaped workpieces can be held securely. Both Y-axis and X-axis workpieces are fixed in the center position by separate screw tightening operations. "Mr. Yamazoe says, "The unique structure of the machine, which has no internal bearing mechanism, prevents rattling even after long-term use. Nagatsu Seisakusho will begin automating its main plant to improve the efficiencyof machining die parts. The company will introduce work changers for 5-axis machining centers (MC) and other equipment to replace processed parts. The company plans to introduce several 5-axis MCs and work changers as a set if they are utilized smoothly. The installation cost is about 10 million yen. Workers without machining skills only need to take the workpiece and electrodes in and out of the shelves at the site. The company's domestic sales are about 1.6 billion yen. However, the domestic mold market is shrinking. Rather than expanding sales, this automation initiative is aimed at strengthening cost competitiveness and promoting work style reform. Once the automation at the head office plant gets going, the company plans to start automation at the Niigata plant in Mitsuke City, Niigata Prefecture in two to three years.
