Hiroshima offers permanent home to Okamoto's 'Myth of Tomorrow'

HIROSHIMA, Japan - With a copy of Taro Okamoto's mural ''Myth of Tomorrow'' in the background, Akiomi Hirano, director of Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum in Tokyo, speaks to reporters in Hiroshima on Jan. 9 about Hiroshima's offer to house Okamoto's painting at a park north of the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome. TANEGASHIMA, Japan - Japan's first lunar orbiter Kaguya, scheduled to be launched Aug. 16 aboard an H-2A rocket, is on display at the Tanegashima Space Center in Kagoshima Prefecture on June 18. According to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, the 3-ton, 5.5-meter-tall unmanned spacecraft will be used to collect scientific data to help scientists better understand about the origin of the moon and its transformational history. HUALIAN, Taiwan - Toru Yahata, a sea kayak instructor based in Okinawa, arrives in the eastern Taiwan port city of Hualian on June 18, after rowing 700 kilometers in a solo kayak trip from the northern Philippines. Yahata, 32, says it took him 16 days to make the voyage with his 5.5-meter boat, at an average speed of 6 km per hour. Yahata also made a solo kayak trip from Hualian to Yonakuni in southern Okinawa, a distance of 140 km, in June last year.
