SAPPORO, Japan - Candidates for nationwide university admission exams arrive at Hokkaido University on Jan. 19 to prepare for two days of exams amid heavy snowfall. Hokkaido University is one of the 736 test centers across the country for the unified university admission exams. Applicants for this year's exams totaled 543,385, down about 10,000 from last year, reflecting decreasing childbirths.
