Biggest ship ever passes under Tokyo's Rainbow Bridge

TOKYO, Japan - The 63,000-ton luxury cruise ship Volendam sails under Tokyo's Rainbow Bridge on Oct 5., becoming the biggest ship ever to do so. The liner, operated by Seattle-based Holland America Line Westours Inc., is 237 meters long and rises nearly 50 meters from the surface of the water.

Kin of heart transplant recipient thank U.S. military for help

GUSHIKAWA, Japan - The father (L) and sister of Shingo Arasaki, a 19-year-old from Okinawa Prefecture who underwent a heart transplant in the United States on Oct. 11, thank the top U.S. military commander in Okinawa on Oct. 24 for help in realizing the operation. Susumu and Asami Arasaki met Lt. Gen. Wallace Gregson (R) at Camp Courtney in Gushikawa. The U.S. military raised $63,000 for the operation and travel expenses.
