A tornado-like "extreme wind phenomenon" ripped through a campsite near Albufeira in Portugal's Algarve region, leaving an 85-year-old British woman dead and over 30 people injured across the area. The storm, which was named by the Spanish meteorological service, affected Portugal and parts of Spain, Britain and Ireland.

Quake Death Toll Nears 3000 - Morocco

The earthquake of magnitude 6.8 on the Richter scale, which struck late last September 8 in the High Atlas area of Morocco, has so far left about thirty aftershocks exceeding magnitude 3, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (CSEM), which has detected less seismic activity in recent days. More than 2,900 people have died and 5,500 have been injured as a result of the earthquake, according to a new official death toll released yesterday, September 12, by the Moroccan Ministry of Interior.
