Red Spider Nebula

Handout photo dated on October 26, 2025 shows Red Spider Nebula. Using its Near-InfraRed Camera (NIRCam), NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope captured never-before-seen details of the Red Spider Nebula, a planetary nebula, in this image released on Oct. 26, 2025. NIRCam is Webb’s primary near-infrared imager, providing high-resolution imaging and spectroscopy for a wide variety of investigations. Webb’s new view of the Red Spider Nebula reveals for the first time the full extent of the nebula’s outstretched lobes, which form the ‘legs’ of the spider. These lobes, shown in blue, are traced by light emitted from H2 molecules, which contain two hydrogen atoms bonded together. Stretching over the entirety of NIRCam’s field of view, these lobes are shown to be closed, bubble-like structures that each extend about 3 light-years. Satellite View of Severe wildfires in Spain and Portugal

Handout photo dated on August 16, 2025 shows Massive wildfires are spreading in north-west and western Spain, forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents. By 17 August 2025, Spain had already recorded its highest annual total of estimated fire emissions in the 23-year Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) dataset. This Copernicus Sentinel-2 image acquired on 16 August 2025 shows dense smoke plumes rising from active fires near the city of Ourense, located in the autonomous community of Galicia, northwestern Spain. Portugal has also been severely affected by the fires, with northern and central regions hit the hardest. According to CAMS data, the country’s estimated emissions have nearly reached the highest annual totals of 2003 and 2005. To support national authorities, the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) has been activated to provide emergency mapping services. Further information is available here. Spain, Portugal. Przewalski s horses at the Helan Mountain Nature Reserve - China

The Przewalski's horse is listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species and is under first-class national protection. Once extinct in China due to excessive poaching and environmental degradation, the Przewalski's horses were reintroduced to the country from Britain, Germany and the United States starting in the mid-1980s, and were raised in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Gansu Province. Since 2024, a total of 18 Przewalski's horses in three batches from Xinjiang have been released into the Helan Mountain Nature Reserve in Ningxia, as a way to protect the endangered species. On April 13 this year, a Przewalski's horse gave birth to a foal, marking the first case of breeding after the reintroduction of the Przewalski's horse in the nature reserve. Yuncheng Salt Lake, known as the "Dead Sea of China," is one of three inland salt lakes with sodium sulfate in the world, covering an area of 132 square km. It once served as a salt production base. To better protect the lake's ecology, industrial production activities in the lake area have been completely terminated, and restoration works such as embankment renovation, dredging, and flood prevention have been carried out.
