Yamanashi Pref.'s 'miracle wine' goes on sale

KOFU, Japan - Bottles of "Akaike Maboroshi Yeast 2013," dubbed the "miracle wine" made with yeast in the waters of Lake Akaike near Lake Shoji, one of the Fuji Five Lakes at the base of Mt. Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture, are shown at Shirayuri Winery in Koshu in the prefecture. They were put on sale on Sept. 9, 2014. Centenarians in Japan number record 25,606

TOKYO, Japan - Yone Minagawa (photo taken April 6, 2005) from Akaike, Fukuoka Prefecture, is the oldest person in Japan at 112. The government said on Sept. 13 ahead of Respect for the Aged Day on Sept. 19 that centenarians in Japan will number a record 25,606 by the end of September.

FUKUOKA, Japan - Ura Koyama (in undated file photo), the oldest person in Japan, died of pneumonia on April 5 aged 114 at a hospital in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, her family said. She became the country's oldest person after Mitoyo Kawate in Hiroshima City died at 114 on Nov. 13, 2003. Yone Minagawa, 112, who lives in Akaike, Fukuoka Prefecture, has now become the oldest person in Japan, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

FUKUOKA, Japan - A station wagon is salvaged from the bottom of the river in Akaike, Fukuoka Prefecture on June 25. Four people were killed and one was slightly injured when the car they were riding in crashed through a guardrail and plunged into the river below the road.
