A forest fire that broke out in Méntrida, Toledo province, on Thursday, July 17, has burned approximately 3,200 hectares, forcing evacuations and prompting a Level 2 alert for Castilla-La Mancha and the Community of Madrid. The blaze led to several highway closures, with smoke and ash from the fire reaching as far as Madrid.

The explosion, which is thought to have been caused by a butane gas bottle, ripped through a third floor flat in the sleeper town of Alcorcon, on the outskirts of Madrid, killing the five-year-old brother of the baby. Both the mother and the baby were discovered without heartbeat, but emergency services were able to restart their hearts.
