China announces start of Olympic torch relay

Hu announced the start of the Olympic torch relay at the ceremony. The flame will be carried to Almaty, Kazakhstan, on April 1 on the first leg of the longest Olympic torch relay ever, covering 137,000 kilometers and five continents, before reaching the main Olympic stadium in Beijing for the start of the games on Aug. 8.
