The discretion on whether masks should be worn indoors will be left to the owners of premises, with owners who wished to impose the wearing of face masks being allowed to do so, Khairy told a press conference. "It's the owners' right to deny customers who flout their conditions. Some premises owners might feel that they are exposed and the risk is high if masks are not worn," Khairy said. The decision was made due to the easing COVID-19 situation in the country and the greater availability of antiviral medication but other measures would remain in place to prevent the spread of the disease, Khairy added. Covid Antiviral Pill Can Halve Risk Of Hospitalisation

Handout - An experimental drug for severe Covid cuts the risk of hospitalisation or death by about half, interim clinical trial results suggest. The tablet - molnupiravir - was given twice a day to patients recently diagnosed with the disease. US drug-maker Merck said its results were so positive that outside monitors had asked to stop the trial early. It said it would apply for emergency use authorisation for the drug in the US in the next two weeks. Dr Anthony Fauci, chief medical adviser to US President Joe Biden, said the results were "very good news", but urged caution until the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had reviewed the data. Copper fiber sheet commercialized by Good Eye

Good Eye (Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture) will release GUD Sheet, a copper fiber sheet with antibacterial and antiviral effects, in June. The company commercialized four types of masks, including one priced at 4,980 yen (excluding consumption tax). The GUD sheet is a polymer fiber covered with copper foil and coated with a visible light responsive photocatalyst. In an experiment on bacteriophage, a virus that infects bacteria, it was confirmed that rubbing a finger covered with the virus on the sheet for 30 seconds reduced the number of the virus to less than 1/1000.Professor Hideyuki Itabashi of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Gunma University, who also serves as the company's chairman, said, "We hope to start experiments in July.
