Hidoshi AshidaBorn on Nov. 15, 1887 and died on June 20, 1959. Ashida joined the Foreign Ministry after graduating from the University of Tokyo in 1912 but resigned from the ministry in protest over the Manchurian Incident. Ashida became prime minister on March 10, 1948 but was forced to resign on Oct. 15 of the same year because of being involved in the Showa Denko scandal. In December of that year, Ashida was arrested but finally acquitted in 1958.
