Maltese businessman keeps documents sent by Japan Navy

VALLETTA, Malta - Photo shows Frank Borda, president of a trading house in Malta and resident near the nation's capital Valletta, in July 2014. Among the documents he has kept is one dated Aug. 17, 1917, sent to his grandfather by the Japanese Navy which procured supplies for a fleet dispatched to the Mediterranean Sea in April 1917 during World War I. Borda's great-grandfather and grandfather were ship chandlers.

VALLETTA, Malta - This document written by the captain of the flagship of the Japanese fleet dispatched to the Mediterranean Sea in April 1917 during World War I is kept by Frank Borda, president of a trading house in Malta. Dated Aug. 17, 1917, the document describing the purchase of foods and other goods and expressing satisfaction with the service was sent to Borda's grandfather.
