Veteran announcer Tamaoki dies at 76

TOKYO, Japan - Veteran announcer Hiroshi Tamaoki (file photo taken in August, 2005), who is best known as the host of a popular TV music program broadcast between the 1950s and 1970s, died of brain-stem hemorrhage on Feb. 11, 2010, at a hospital in Kanagawa Prefecture. He was 76.

Kajima Honorary Chairman Ishikawa dies at 80

TOKYO, Japan - Rokuro Ishikawa (file photo taken in August, 1992), honorary chairman of major construction company Kajima Corp., died of heart failure on Dec. 14. He was 80. Ishikawa also served as former chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1987 through 1993.

U.S. consortium to build tuna farm in California for export to Japan

LOS ANGELES, United States - A diver hauls a tuna cultivated at a farm off the cost of southern California in a photo taken in August, 2004. A consortium of U.S. firms is planning to build a large tuna farm to raise the fish mainly for export to Japan. The U.S. Department of Commerce is preparing a bill to support the construction of the farm as it apparently believes that tuna exports to Japan would help reduce U.S. trade deficits with Japan.
