Benten Pond,Zojoji Temple,Shiba

Large lotus leaves cover the surface of a pond. There is an elevated area with a simple hut called an azumaya built on top. Stone lanterns and a five-tier stone tower are placed around the pond. Kanazawa Hakkei

Hiragata Bay as seen from Kyurantei. Biwajima Benten is visible in the centre, with Seto Shinto Shrine at the tip of the peninsula. The teahouses on the right of the shrine are (from the left) Chiyomoto-ro and Ogiya, and Azumaya is in the rear. Deer on the approach to Kasuga Shrine

This photo depicts a shack called azumaya and some deer. Two people on the far left appear to be foreigners. Although it is difficult to see the condition of the deer hair, judging from the man's attire and the trees, it was probably summer. Tonosawa Spa

A view of Tonosawa spa from the mountain near the present Tonosawa station of the Hakone Tozan railway. Across the Haya River are the Azumaya to the left, and to the right can be seen the present Fukujuro (could be Tamanoyu at the time). Cherry trees at Ueno Park

Ueno park is one of the parks built by the Meiji government. Shiba Park is also one of them, and both have a similar characteristic that the tomb place of the Shogun were opened to the public. Tonosawa Spa

The site of present-day Fukujuro in Tonosawa (Tamanoyu at that time, or its predecessor), seen from the vicinity of the present Chitose Bridge. A bridge over the Azumaya or riverbed of Haya River can be seen. The mountain is Mt.Yusaka.
