Batbayer Arzan, a Khoomei performer in China's Xinjiang has devoted himself to the Mongolian art of singing with support from the government. I'm a folk artist and a fourth-generation inheritor of Khoomei (throat singing) in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Khoomei is a style of singing in which a performer imitates the sounds of nature. The government funds me 4,800 yuan (about 679 U.S. dollars) per year to promote the art. I can get an extra 1,500 yuan (about 212 U.S. dollars) of subsidy per month by teaching
