Snowboarding rail contest held in Osaka

A snowboard rail competition is held on a special course at Honganji Tsumura Betsuin temple in Osaka on Nov. 23, 2024. Two rails were installed on the stairs leading to the temple's main hall for the rail slide competition, a discipline certified by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation last season.

Bean-throwing in train ahead of annual festival

OSAKA, Japan - Keihan Electric Railway Co.'s image character "Okeihan" (L) and a Buddhist monk (R) from a temple, Naritasan Osaka Betsuin Myooin, surprise passengers on a Keihan express train by throwing fortune beans on Jan. 31, 2014. The "mamemaki" bean throwing ritual is celebrated annually in Japan in early February to drive away evil spirits.

Wake for Suntory's Saji held in Osaka

OSAKA, Japan - A wake for Keizo Saji, chairman of Japan's largest whiskey maker Suntory Ltd., is held in Tsumura Betsuin in Osaka's Chuo Ward, on Nov. 4. Among those attending was Osaka Gov. Knock Yokoyama (L). Saji died of pneumonia Nov. 3.

Kita Mido (North Hall)

Kitanomido is also known as Nishihonganji Tsumura Betsuin (subtemple). Designated a subtemple in 1876, it served as a rest place for Emperor Meiji at the time of the Meiji Restoration. The Osaka Prefecture Office and Osaka Hospital were also located here at different times. Cherry trees at Nogeyama Park

Iseyama Kotaijingu Shrine and Naritasan Yokohama Betsuin (a.k.a. Noge Fudo) were built in 1870 near Mt. Noge. The area attracted many people during the cherry blossom season and in autumn when the leaves turn colour.
