The Saturn V stack and its mobile launch tower are atop a huge crawler-transporter. The Apollo 8 crew consists of (left to right) astronauts Frank Borman, commander; James A. In August of 1968, these three NASA astronauts received a call telling them to cancel their winter holiday plans — they were going to the Moon.
