KYOTO, Japan - Yoshinori Kobayashi, professor of Japanese at Tokushima Bunri University, who said on April 2 he has found letters that look like Japanese ''katakana'' in an ancient Korean Buddhist text. Kobayashi said that though katakana script is believed to have been invented in Japan around the ninth century, his findings suggest it may have originated on the Korean Peninsula and have been introduced to Japan through such Buddhist texts.
