A brush fire dubbed the Ethan Fire broke out Sunday, August 23, at Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale, California, sending a towering column of smoke into the sky that was visible from nearby communities.

The Hawk Fire has burned more than 10,500 acres in Washoe County, Nevada, near Reno, threatening nearly 1,000 homes as of Saturday evening, August 22. The fire, which started on a hillside northeast of Verdi, has prompted evacuation warnings in neighboring Sierra County, California, and closed Highway 395 in both directions. Nevada Gov. US: Wildfire Spreads to 131 Acres in San Diego’s Sorrento Valley

A vegetation fire broke out in the Sorrento Valley area of San Diego on Sunday, prompting road closures and evacuation orders for several residential areas. The fire, first reported around 1:30 p.m. near Peñasquitos Creek at an estimated 1 to 2 acres, rapidly grew through medium brush, reaching 131 acres by late afternoon, according to Cal Fire.
